93 Sedan Deville blows cold air-I'm freezingcadaholic 12-20-2005, 06:04 PM I have a 93 Cadillac Sedan Deville. It is blowing cold air and has no heat (obviously). The water pump has gone out twice in the past year. It doesn't seem to run hot, but once in awhile it smells hot or like oil is burning. Could any one please help me? I don't know if it is the thermostat or what? My father in-law said he took it in and they said it was the blower. I don't know what this means, roughly how much the part costs, etc. I am not good with cars. I've been reading some of the threads posted here, but I feel stupid because I am mechanically challenged. I just know that I am freezing to death. I would love some help. Thanks skull1 12-23-2005, 09:34 PM when you say it's blowing cold air is it when you have the heater on that it's cold air coming out? cadaholic 12-23-2005, 11:19 PM when you say it's blowing cold air is it when you have the heater on that it's cold air coming out? When the heater and/or window defrosters are on cold air is coming out of the vents. There is no heat whatsoever, just cold air. Thanks for responding to my problem. I appreciate it. skull1 12-24-2005, 12:00 AM the thermostat may be sticking in the open position this would cause the heater to blow cold air and does the temp gauge operate at normal range? cadaholic 12-24-2005, 04:58 PM the thermostat may be sticking in the open position this would cause the heater to blow cold air and does the temp gauge operate at normal range? Yes, the temp seems to be operating at the normal range and there are no lights that come on to suggest otherwise. If the thermostat is stuck in the open position would I have to get a new thermostat, or can I unstick it somehow? josho_989_ 12-24-2005, 05:31 PM it could be the the heater core, they tend to get clogged after a few years if the antifreeze and water mixture was mixed too rich. i just changed mine last week, you can reverse flush it with a hose, but might as well replace the core, about $50 and an hour of your time. a haynes or chilton manual would be great if your willing to learn. good luck skull1 12-25-2005, 05:54 PM yes it could possibly be the heater core and no there is no way way to unstick a thermostat they are cheap and easy to replace and i would also back flush the cooling system to HAWG 12-27-2005, 08:28 AM could also be the haeter control valve not functioning properly. check and see if the hoses off of it are hot on both sides cadaholic 12-28-2005, 10:03 PM Check to see if the hoses on either side of what are hot on both sides? Sorry that I am so ignorant. I'm very appreciative for all of everybody's help. HAWG 12-29-2005, 06:59 AM there is a valve located between two of the heater hoses to the rear (firewall side) of the engine. It has three lines going to it. It is a water control flow valve. Make sure the hoses on both side of that valve are hot when at normal operating temperature and the heater on. Hope that helps you Dr. P 03-20-2008, 12:09 AM Try to fond out what the override function looks like on your 93 and then follow these directions - which work on '95 and later http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=894740 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
