Negative Battery Cable

I was having problems maintaining a good connection on the negative side of my Battery. The original terminal was cracked and I purchased both a new terminal end and a terminal with cable set that was supposed to be for the 93 caravan 3.3. When I went to look at replacing it I found that the original has 3 wires coming out of the terminal (the main ground and two lighter wires) and the replacement only has 2, the main ground cable and an additional lighter cable (considerably lighter than at least 1 of the originals). I decided to just replace the terminal end at this time even though I mistrust the open connection between the cable and the replacement terminal. Anyone replace their ground/cable and run into a similiar problem? Thanks

i normally cut the original terminal off then remove about 1" of insulation from cable and wires then clean bare cable and wire the i solder copper terminals with 1/4 or 5/16 eyelets on cable then i bolt it to the replacement lead terminals using the 2 bolts that hold the retaining plate leaving the plate off
