Just bought 2001 E150 hightop conversion van by American Vans in Georgia (who never answered my E-mail) with 43000 miles on it. Wind from 18 wheelers especially, rocks the van bad. Is this normal or do I need new shocks or is there some sway bar that could be installed to stablisze the van? Thanks for any advice.

At 40,000 if you still have the factory shocks, they are probably bad, but you will still get knocked around by the wind. Hi top vans catch a lot of air and rock pretty good.

Hollowcreek: Thanks for the reply. I expect that's the problem. Do you think air assist shocks would be the best option? Best Holiday wishes to you and yours.

Air assist shocks will stiffen the ride and allow for a little extra weight. If you have the extra weight the I recommend a stiffer spring ( although when in in high school I had the Gabrial high jackers up to there limit all the time) Dont go cheap on the shocks. Go with the best Gas pressurized shocks you can get. I am a ford guy and that is all I own. The first thing I do when I buy a ford is change the shocks. The oem shocks just dont last. One other thing is to make sure you have anti roll bars and they are working properly. Years ago I had a customer with a B class motorhome on a 91 E350 chassis and it did not have rear anti roll bars on it. I installed one and what a difference.

You can probably do just as well with heavy duty gas charged truck shocks and get a lot more miles out of them. Air shocks are only good for about 25,000 miles most of the time, while you may never need to replace the truck shocks again.
I also went to a better grade of tire (10 ply minimum) as opposed to the wimpy overgrown car tires that mine came with. I had worn out 2 sets of those Michelin LT tires that they sell at Sears, so I switched to a heavier duty Dunlop truck tire. Between the shocks and the better tires, the handling was much better.

Thanks for the reply. You're right on the tires. These seem almost new, but they are very soft and contribute to the roll I'm sure.
