Help

Have a 92 sse that I need to keep working a little while longer. The car is running very badly seems to be missing. I have a coolant smell and humid air coming from vents that is making the windows foggy. The window thing started last week before starting to run bad. I replaced the water pump about 3 months ago. Also losing coolant but can't find leak. Assume it's going out the vents as steam.

Thanks

David

You leak is your heater core ,havent changed one in durango but probably need to take dash apart on passenger side anyways.
When was the last time you changed plugs and wires ,if its been a while, change them.

First thanks for the help.

So the heater core will that make the car run bad? Something made this car run really bad just overnight.

And the coolant light and having to add coolant daily it's safe to assume this loss of fluid is from steam in the vents? I do not see any leaks.

Again thanks for the help, Money issues forcing me to fix this myself.

When the heater core leaks it leaks in the enclosed box, and then on your passenger floor.
You may want to consider bypassing the unit by connecting the inlet and outlet hoses together. You won't have heat (may not need in California) but it will "keep it running a little while longer" for very little cash or effort.

The rough running will not be corrected by fixing the heater core. (even though it may have been caused by it) Did the engine over heat when it lost coolant? Does your oil still look like only oil? (no coolant mixed in it) More info and diagnosing will be needed to figure out this missfire problem.

I went out today and after nursing the car home today it will not start, Made a couple of back fires when trying. I checked the oil still looks like oil no water. Any ideas.

Again thanks for the help, Am not good with cars but have two cars down that I have to fix myself. The other is a 97 windstar with a bad thermostat and some damn smog problem.

Thanks

Adding coolant may have got on the coil pack check for spark

its your heater core

The foggy windows/losing coolant is definitely a heater core, as earlier posts suggested. The running bad may be related if you ran the car low enough on coolant to cause it to overheat. A compression test and spark plug inspection (look for green coloration) may indicate a blown head gasket. Also, if the exhaust smelled sweet or steamed excessively prior to it quitting, that would indicate coolant in the combustion chamber (head gasket leak) also.
