Ok, I am in the market for a DSM. Well, I found a 97 GSX spyder and I got to thinking. I see that Automotive Articles made a writeup (should get the sticky here) and I read it. Well, I was wondering... I know what the work is going to be and money, fabrication blah blah blah. I'm not worried about either, atleast not now. I was wondering though, would 1g AWD drivetrain go into a 95+ with the same or about the same amount of fabrication? Do you think the Spyder could take it as well? Would having no roof have big negative effects on the structural rigidity of the car?

I just think an AWD Spyder 97+ would be sexy as hell, but could also be fun and how many are there? Are there very many :grinno:. I thought, well, I could get a 97 spyder and 92 GSX/TSI AWD (for the 6/4 combo) for about the same or less than the same 97 GSX and with a little elbow grease, fabrication, cursing, throwing tools, and breaking shit I could have a pretty sweet car. What do you guys think?

BTW, heres the link to the AWD conversion:

I'm not a big fan of the spyders (especially cause it's 0 here) but that would be cool. I'm not sure if the undercarriage is the same on the spyder as in the gs-t/gsx cause the fact that there's no roof they may have made the underside stronger to compensate.

The 2g's are designed to have a really good center of gravity, so that means majority of the weight is distributed between the front and rear axles. With this thought in mind, I would assume that the Spyders have some type of subframe connecting the front and rear. If not, the whole car would probably split in half because of the weight transfer.

On another forum a guy said that he did the AWD conversion on his spyder.

Would it maybe be easier to do a spyder conversion to a gsx? just a thought, ot you could do it to a tsi awd, were there any talon spyders? I've never seen one (be totally unique)

Seen the AWD Spyder done a couple of times.. I like um. I suppose if you live in a warm climate where it doesn't snow it'd be a pretty good deal.

Yeah, I forgot about the possibility of difference between spyder and hard top. I also am starting to doubt a 1g setup going into a spyder like the 2g setup. I'm thinking I'm just going to wait it out and get a gsx, less things for me to screw up.

No there wasn't, but I found an incredible looking Spyder that someone did the AWD conversion to and gave it the 97+ Talon front end... It looks siiiiick... Here's a picture of it.

Wow, someone did an eclipse to talon conversion? Don't see that too often. Didn't david-b say he would do that if he gets an eclipse turbo? lol

Looks awesome though.

It looks as if the rear taillights are also from a talon (not just the front end)...I must admit, I dont like the rear of the talons, but that front (stock) body kit is just sexy.

I got a hold of those same sideskirts and I'm gonna put them on with my same front clip and spoiler... I'm hoping mine looks as sweet as that one does when its all done...

I'd have to say I like the Eclipse back end, but the 97 Talon front end looks pretty tight too (still like the 97+ eclipses better)
