arguementJohn J. McGrath 12-14-2005, 08:26 PM Gentlemen: To help settle an arguement, did Ford ever come out with a dohc 427 motor in a street machine? And if they did, what year? Also, who had the first 427 engine, Chevy or Ford? Thank you for your time and efforts. Sincerely, Jack McGrath speedfreak 01-16-2006, 05:27 PM 1. did Ford ever come out with a dohc 427 motor in a street machine? 2. Also, who had the first 427 engine, Chevy or Ford? 1. No. They did make a single overhead cam 427, though. I think it came out in 1964 or 65 and the dual-quad version made 657hp. It was not a factory-installed option, however. You had to buy it as a crate engine. I dont know if any were dealer-installed in new cars. 2. I dont know. Ford's pushrod 427 came out in I think 1963. 01L2Cobra 01-19-2006, 03:25 PM The 1963-1/2 Galaxie 500 Q-code and R-code and 1964 Thunderbolt had the Ford 427. 1963-1/2 Galaxie 500 R-code http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/articles/lfm-issue01-a1-1.php Only 100 Fairlane Thunderbolts were partially built by the Ford Motor Company and shipped to Dearborn Steel Tubing for completion.
