My 95 Nissan pathfinder just started a new problem, the door ajar light on my control panel is on. Always! And it thinks the back hatch is open . . so the lights flash like a disco the entire time I drive. What can the problem be??

My 95 Nissan pathfinder just started a new problem, the door ajar light on my control panel is on. Always! And it thinks the back hatch is open . . so the lights flash like a disco the entire time I drive. What can the problem be??
I've heard of a lot of people adding electrical tape to the latch on the hatch. This makes the pin bigger which in turn makes the switch close. Cheap and worth a try. I just turned my light completely off on mine (1990), but on the 1990, I don't have a door ajar light in the cluster.
