1995 corsica 2.2 jend273 12-11-2005, 02:50 PM
i own a 1995 corsica 2.2. motor makes popping sound, stalls and wont restart for about 20 min. now it quit running completely. have replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, oxegyn sensor, cadallidic converter, and its not the timing chain. we just checked that and its fine. anyone know what is wrong with my car?? it has white spark and is trying like crazy to start but for some reason cant. we also have replaced map sensor. jsgold 12-11-2005, 06:31 PM Most likely the crank sensor, very common item. If it fails it can't fire, or, at right time. Also could be ignition module, maybe firing only part of the time. If it IS still firing, try the crank sensor, as it is fairly cheap most of the time. jend273 12-12-2005, 09:50 AM Most likely the crank sensor, very common item. Usually the car has a problem shutting down after running a while. Then nothing. The crank sensor and ignition module control your spark. The only other thing I could think of is the ECM which can fail if wet. Ours failed 4-5 years ago, but was just giving false codes. I have seen GM 4.3 engines(used in vans and trucks) keep from starting due to bad EGR valves but not a Corsica 3.1 or 2.2. My bet is crank sensor, ignition module, or wiring. if you know someone who has a scan tool you can check the crank sensor by seeing if rpm's are registering. jend273 12-14-2005, 09:38 AM we just replaced the crank sensor and that wasnt it either.it is definately getting spark and fuel. i appreciate your suggestions. any others? jsgold 12-14-2005, 05:47 PM My bet is ignition module, even though you are getting fire. It is most likley thing to go on GM cars along with crank sensor. I think you are simply getting weak fire which won't ignite gas. The only other things I would suggest is cleaning the EGR valve (or unhook it once and see) and possibly the computer itself is failing/bad. I would remove the ignition /coil module assy, take it to Advance, or NAPA, and get it tested. It should run if getting gas and spark, I bet the spark is simply not strong enough.
