Anyone know what a 5-1 code on air ba lite is for a 1993 E150? Ready to pull what little hair I have left out.

Anyone know what a 5-1 code on air ba lite is for a 1993 E150? Ready to pull what little hair I have left out.

According to the 94 shop manual, code 51 is "Diagnostic monitor internal thermal fuse blown and sort to ground no longer exists (short to ground was repaired or is intermittent)."

Manual also says "If a fault exists that makes unwanted air bag deployment possible, the air bag diagnostic monitor has an internal thermal fuse that will blow (open) automatically. This removes all power to the air bag deployment circuit."

"Since the thermal fuse is built into the air bag diagnostic monitor, the monitor must be replaced to service a code 51 condition. NEVER replace the air bag diagnostic monitor without first determining the cause for the code 51 condition."

"NEVER PROBE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAGS. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT..."

Note any other air bag codes and resolve those before resolving the code 51 problem.

To avoid air bag deployment and possible injury, precautions must be taken. Disconnect the positive battery cable and wait at least five minutes to discharge the air bag emergency power. Then I would remove the air bag module from the steering wheel and disconnect it.

Locate the diagnostic monitor. The thermal fuse can be checked by checking for continuity between pins 13 and 15 on the diagnostic monitor.
