I have a 91 4runner 4wd v.6 and when temperature drops to (40) or below I get a thumping grinding noise coming from passenger side front end. the noise stops when I put it in 4H or if I jerk the wheel or hit a bump. Ive replaced the brakes, shocks, wheel berrings, tires among many other things and no machanic can seem to tell me anything worth my time. Ive taken it in to get it checked out a few times and they have all told me they cant see anything wrong. Did anyone have this problem and fix it or does anyone have any suggestions? Please help

Get a pry bar and check all the control arm bushings. Especially if you have had a leaky power steering pump the PS fluid will deteriorate the rubber.

A static check is to look very closely if the center is loaded symmetrically, if it is off center by much the bushing has degraded.
I changed mine and talk about handling better!!!!

Have had the same noise sounds like a bad bearing then just disapears where the drive shaft goes through the hub you need greasing it dries up after a while or the grease moves away from the contact areas......pretty well have to take it apart to grease well enough...John
