winter button directory 12-09-2005, 12:14 AM
so, here in illinois--we just got 6 inches of snow. i got to use the 4x4 mode on the streets today. so i look down--hey a winter mode button--it's winter--let's push it. the light on the dashboard lights up--i can feel the engine have a slight bog as the winter mode inhibits gearing selection (starts you in 3rd, i believe). i'm driving and look at my dash--no winter mode light on. so at the stop light i push it again--it engages everything normal...until i see it shut off again. does it shut off automatically as it reaches higher speeds? i was doing about 25-35 mph when i noticed it off. it comes back on when i push it though... rodeo02 12-09-2005, 12:44 AM Yep. It will only light up from a stop, and kicks out automatically at something like 25mph. A totally useless feature IMO, especially on a 4x4. Joel amigo-2k 12-09-2005, 09:43 AM well I love my winter button on my 2wd! I used it all the way to work today! I'm sure glad I got new tires about a month ago. directory 12-09-2005, 12:26 PM good, i figured that was the issue. thanks! wb4lbg 12-09-2005, 03:40 PM I guess several years driving a 5 speed and several years before that of driving a RWD pickup, I never saw the utility of the Winter button. Just start out slow in slick conditions and all will usually be well. What exactly is the advantage to starting in 3rd gear? Less chance for wheel spinning because the engine is heavily loaded? directory 12-09-2005, 05:56 PM yeah, i think that is pretty much it. it didn't really do anything, that i noticed. Ramblin Fever 12-09-2005, 06:57 PM What exactly is the advantage to starting in 3rd gear? Less chance for wheel spinning because the engine is heavily loaded? Exactly! Trust me IT WORKS! Have had this 4x2 in places where my 4x4 Rodeo went, and there were a lot of times the "winter mode" got us out of the muck. Works great in sand, mud, and on a slippery boat-dock as well. I use it all the time, it's saved my butt I don't know how many times. I agree, if you have a 4x4 Rodeo, it's pointless, I never even pushed that button once in my other Rodeo. wb4lbg 12-12-2005, 09:35 AM Oh, come on, Rambin', surely you've pushed it by accident. IMO, it would have been better if Isuzu would have figured out how to put this one on the dash instead of by the shifter. My wife sat her purse on it by accident on one of the few occasions she has driven my truck. It was July and she quickly called me on the cell phone to ask why the dash said 'Winter' :iceslolan Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
