1998 Ford Taurus white smoke from tailpipeSouthtex4 12-07-2005, 10:08 PM I've been having problems with my 98 Taurus since Monday. It doesn't what to start right away and once it does it seems to idle roughly or sputter. I noticed white smoke from the tail pipe today. A friend said it was unburnt fuel but I'm not sure. Any ideas or comments. Thanks. KimMG 12-07-2005, 11:36 PM blown head gasket. Are you losing coolant? Is the car running hot? Southtex4 12-08-2005, 07:10 AM I haven't noticed any coolant or the car overheating yet. I've driven it to work (64 miles R/T) since Monday and have made it back and forth ok. Should I go ahead and take it in before it gets worse or just play it by ear for now? I've been having problems with my 98 Taurus since Monday. I had the same problem white smoke from tail pipe, car running rough, even a little liquid (looked like water) dripping out of tail pipe, and my check engine (yellow) light came on. I took my car immediately to my mechanic as soon as the light came on the dash. He said I did the right thing because the more you drive the car the more damage you can do to the engine. My problem was a head gasket and was repaired, but could have been worse if I had to replace the engine at that time. I would take your car immediately to a garage and at least have a mechanic look at it while it's running. Willyum 12-08-2005, 12:29 PM White smoke = coolant. Blue smoke = oil. Black smoke = gasoline. vampiro03 01-05-2006, 05:39 PM my 92 did that, but baaad! I loved that car until then. at the time I had no garage or money and I was moving so, I had to get rid of it. I felt like an ass coasting home, nobody behind me could see anything. I couldn't afford to have it towed. I wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
