My friend has a 91 protege that we have been working on and it still wont start. We replaced plugs, wires, fuel rail, injectors and the ecm. Nothing we have tried works. We are getting fuel to the rail because when we take off the hose gas goes everywhere. If we put a rag with gas over the intake it starts just fine but dies as soon as the gas is gone or we take the rag away. Any ideas its driving us nuts.

OK we are still stuck. Found out the injector relay was bad and we were not getting any power to the injectors. Replaced that, cleaned the plugs, checked grounds and swapped the ecm back the the old one but we still got nothing. Checked fuel pressure but its fine. We get it to almost kick over, runs for about 5 seconds then dies and we are not sure what do do next. Any ideas?

i am having the same problem i have done everything you have and still cant get it to run 90 1.8 DOHC protege
