3.1 engine blown smoke bad!!! then dies. crazydriverz 12-05-2005, 09:57 PM
man i have a 93' corsica :smokin: that is blowing smoke pretty bad here. when im down the street about a mile or two it will die out. when i come to a complete stop and wait a minute it will start back up  i just changed the valve seals and it didn't change. help me out :banghead: jsgold 12-05-2005, 10:05 PM What color is smoke, white or blue? Does the car stall in gear or just in general? crazydriverz 12-06-2005, 12:02 AM i would say more of a white smoke.it will stall while driving in gear or coming to a stop sign.all the lights come on and stalls. jsgold 12-06-2005, 07:13 PM May be two unrelated problems. Does the car run rough, or just smoke? The smoking could be a lot of different things. Does it loose coolant, does it use excessive amounts of oil? Does it smell like raw gas? As far as the stalling goes, this is USUALLY caused by TCC solenoid problems, or, failing ignition module / crank sensors. I suppose it could have a bad fuel problem and flooding out, but see if this is what is going on when it stalls. Does it start jerking when slowing down to stop, act like a standard shift car in high gear, finally shutting off. Restarts but stalls as soon as put into gear. Will go into gear after cooling off a bit, but will start doing this again when hot. OR,,, does it simply sputter and die while driving / idleing and WON"T restart until it sits a while? To better get help from those here, when did the car start smoking? Always done it? Just start? If it smokes a LOT then it is either - A- burning OIL, maybe a broken ring etc. B- excessive gas, perhaps fuel injector problem, throttle body problem, C- steam from cracked head/blown gasket or intake gasket problems. Please advise if oil is milky colored, anti freeze always low, engine missing constantly, or any other detail you can think of. If the stalling is caused by the TCC solenoid it is a simple fix. Any other problem may or may not be over my head, but any information SHOULD get some help / other replies. Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
