Governor setting?megavolt121 12-04-2005, 12:59 AM Does anyone know if the a 98 V6 5spd has a Governor on it? If so what is it set at? I was just going 115 when the engine just cut out. I wanted to make sure its the governor and not a bigger problem. (other than me speeding of course) amigo-2k 12-04-2005, 01:03 AM 115 in an SUV? death trap ... Ramblin Fever 12-04-2005, 04:08 AM Sheesh! :banghead:  :disappoin Too bad you haven't experienced a tire blow out doing 65mph, pulling a 20' boat, with a 12' camper on a 3/4 Chevy long-bed on a windy Wyoming stretch. TRUST me, you'd never do 115mph again. Yes, it's most likely your governor switch. Don't know what else to say, except I hope you stay away from other drivers while going that speed. Hate to sound harsh, but I've had some very good friends get killed because of stunts like that. Ramblin Fever 12-04-2005, 04:11 AM Forgot to add, I have no idea what it's set at, I've never gone over 70mph. Truly couldn't care what it's set at, it'll never see 80mph let alone 100+mph. Don't want that insurance or death risk. megavolt121 12-04-2005, 04:40 AM Friend in an S2000 was tempting me on an open empty stretch of road. I dont usually do that. rodeo02 12-04-2005, 08:05 AM I'm surprized you acheived 115mph, must have been going down-hill. IIRC- most (stock) passenger light trucks / suv's are speed limited to 100mph, the rev limiter should cut out ignition spark right at the redline on your tach. Joel Ramblin Fever 12-04-2005, 10:11 AM FWIW - I have done the same, raced someone, about 2yrs ago. I think it was a 2002-2003 Nissan Xterra, but neither one of us got up over 60mph. It was about 3 AM, not one other sole out on the street, a 45mph street, with 2 lights about 10 blocks from one another. We were both sitting at the red light, he had just bought his truck, no plates yet, and was sitting beside me just revving the crap out of that Xterra - I actually thought it was funny to hear someone revving an SUV. Couldn't resist to try and knock his "look what I got" ego down, so I pushed the "Power mode" button and just sat patiently waiting for the light to turn green. Both of us bounced off from the light, and I had him within a matter of seconds - I think he had a stick and couldn't keep the shifts soon enough to stay with me. I never even hit 4500rpm's or 60mph, didn't have to, as I toasted him at 50mph. Got guts my friend, to try and outpace a car, another SUV is one thing, but a car? There's no comparison, you'd blow your rig before accomplishing anything - when it comes to most cars anyway. I wouldn't do it again; getting older and there's no point in seeing who can tear their rig up faster. But it was cool to see the guy shake his head and back down. phil_01_s 12-06-2005, 09:04 PM But your engine came back in right, you didn't have to restart or anything? I had a 90 Nissan 240 that would cut out like that at about 117mph, I really can't remember what happened but I seem to remember it coming back around 80-90mph. It was the the govenor though, seem to remember later 80's camero's being I think rev limited at 110-112 possibly. Young and stupid and wanted to see how fast our cars would go, don't recommend it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
