I've a '93 Roadmaster Wagon with 211,000 kilometres (120,000 miles) - very good condition... it's been determined that I need a new head gasket (have been having an overheating problem - mechanic ruled out the usual suspects). I would like to keep the Roadmaster for a number of years yet - what would you folks recommend - new gasket service or is this the time to do an engine rebuild? (no antifreeze in bottom of engine, no oil in antifreeze noted) :eek7:

Hello. If you have no other problems with the engine,I would suggest replace the head gaskets,Also have a machine shop check the heads for warpage and cracks. What size engines are in thoes Roadmasters?? Diesel1962

I decided finally to rebuild the engine at a local shop - there was antifreeze in the oil pan and not that big of a difference between head gasket replacement and the rebuild quote. No warpage or cracks in the heads. BTW Diesel1962, it's a 5.7 L engine... will get back to report on how rebuild turns out...

Thanks for reply.Hope engine rebuld goes well. You should get many years of service from your car!!I am looking at buying an older Buick,Found two in Ohio,1974 Electra,And a 1969 Electra.I would like a Roadmaster,But cannot find any around that are worth fixing.Let me know how the rebuld goes..
