Hi
i own a 1992 Ford T-bird Lx with 3.8L and Automatic transmission it has about 161K miles on it and recently the transmission has seemed to start acting up. In the mornings when i leave for school it will shift from 1st to 2nd and im doing about 30 mph i go around a corner from my house and it seems like the transmission will downshift to first and kind of drag until i accelerate and it shifts again. another problem i have been facing is stop lights. It seems like sometimes when i come to a stop at a stop light and when i go to press the accelerator the car almost stalls but i press the accelerator harder and it goes back to normal. My last problem on the list would be O/D it seems like O/d is very underpowered if i am in overdrive at 45-55mph i have no acceleration and if the transmission downshifts it does it extremely hard. i have gotten used to manually downshifting o/d to d and upshifting but just curious if all these problems could be done with a simple fix like getting the transmission serviced and maybe getting a new o/d band.
thanks dean

The second problem sounds like your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Head over to autozone if you don't have (or know how to use) a multimeter. They will test your current TPS for free, and it only takes a couple of minutes. I think a new one costs about $30.

Also clean your MAF sensor if you haven't already. I used a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol. Do a search in these forums for more details on how to do it.
