I own a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SE, with an AM-FM Stereo with Cassette Tape Player. The Time/Station LED quit on me. The radio works fine. Can it be repaired or replaced?

Being the curious fella that I am, I took the wife's cassette deck apart to check. This is from her 97 Grand Am and should be the same as yours.

There is one bulb for the display backlighting and it is in socket form but soldered to the board. There were no identifying markings on the bulb or housing other than the letters ALBA. I can tell you that it is a 12 volt white miniture lamp with a redish brown (rust) colored housing.

See what they have at Radio shack and some auto parts stores. Let us know how you make out cause I'd like to know what the bulb name or ID number is for future reference.

I have a 99 Bonneville with CD player radio that had the same problem.

The display is actually a back-light type display. If it is dark, your bulb is burnt out, a simple repair depending on how lucky you are or how skilled.

I purchased the light from here

It took about a week to arrive.

Mine was the screw in type, so it was really simple. total repair time 20 minutes.

If you have the solder in type and are afraid to solder it yourself, you have 2 options.
Send the radio in for repair, E-bay lists repairs for around $30.

Or buy the bulb and take it to a TV repair shop for the solder job.

A Factory dealer wont help you, they dont have access to radio parts.

Good luck
