i was checking the oil tonight on a friends 2000 ford escort. And when i pulled the dipstick i seen that it was rather thin and that is smelled of gas. does anyone have an idea on how the gas could have gotten in the oil and what i might do to solve this problem. Any help would be greatly appricated. Tom

If you have gas in your oil either your injector is bleeding down or one of your rings are cracked.

Also check for a plugged PCV valve that is not allowing the PCV blowby back into the intake for reburning.

This blowby vapor has gas in it and will cause the gas to impregnate the oil.

You sure there is gas in it? Some oils are quite thin when hot.
