Front Breaks Dragging all the timegburlette 11-29-2005, 05:28 PM I was given a 1994 Jeep GC Laredo after water came up in Hurricane Katrina. The water only made it high enough to get the carpet wet. I changed all the carpet. Now that I have disclosed that, I tried driving the car out of desperation when my pickup truck was laid up. The breaks began to drag. I pulled over after a few miles. The pads or something from that area was smoking a bit. I had it towed back to the house. About a week later I changed break lines, callipers, pads, and rotors and bled only from the calipers but when I took it for a test drive the pads are still dragging on the rotors. Any ideas on what this might be? Oh yea, this is an ABS equipped Vehicle. Also, I don't hear any problems coming from the back breaks. I almost forgot, no ABS or break light on dash coming on. Thanks, Gene mx52nv 11-30-2005, 03:20 AM only thing I can think of is, did you properly grease the caliper bolts?? if not, that could cause your calipers to stick and prevent proper release of the caliper and let the pad drag against the rotor. gburlette 11-30-2005, 10:37 AM I did lube the bolts and the metal sleeve that the bolts go through. I was doing some further reading and learnrd that bolts could be too long. I just don't see how this is possible since they were the bolts that came off. The other thing I read was that there could be an interal fault in the master cylinder. There are some checks I can perform but I will need to go purchase a vacum guage and pump to perform these check. I understand how the closing action works when the caliper clamps down on the rotor but is there an action that backs the pads away from the rotor? BTW, thanks for the reply. Any suggestions are welcomed. Gene mx52nv 11-30-2005, 08:12 PM I'm stumped. jackie-boy 12-02-2005, 07:24 PM There is nothing that pulls the pads away from the rotors. Are you absolutely sure it is the brakes that are making the noise? I mean you replaced everything at the wheels so it almost can't be the brakes. Maybe your front wheel bearings are bad... Interested in this one... gburlette 12-06-2005, 10:53 AM Jackie boy, I haven't had chance to work this out yet. I'm sorry so slow on this. I will post a reply here and send you a message when i get it fixed. Talked to a friend last night who said if I change the master cylinder, change the power booster at the same time. That is what I'm starting to lean towards. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
