Oil pressure on 99 JGCL

Ok, pulling into my garage last night, my oil pressure needle bottomed out and the "check gauges" light came on. As I revved the engine, the needle went back to between 30 and 40 lbs as normal. When driving down the road, however, it again started to bottom out. Is this a sign that the oil pump is going out or is it something like the oil sending unit failing?

Any help is appreciated....
Thanks,

I ended up taking it to the shop. It was the oil sending unit ( I had no idea where it was) He also said that it had an oil leak around the unit that caused it to short out. Battery died at the same time!
