96 Sound system questionsD-VO 11-27-2005, 04:32 PM Hey guys, I'm a newb to the forums here, but I had a question I could not find the answer to anywhere else, I figured someone on here has to know. I'm looking at replacing my speakers in my 96 Grand Cherokee Limited. It has the Infinity Gold sound system. I already have an Alpine 9831 Head Unit. I want to upgrade to Infinity Kappa Perfects all the way around, my questions are: 1. In the car, are there two sets of tweeters? I only found the ones in the dash. 2. If there are two sets, I'm assuming I would just get two sets of the Kappa Perfects and be done as far as speakers go. 3. Are the speakers 6.5" or 6.75"? I've heard conflicting numbers Thanks in advance, Brendon omally33 11-27-2005, 09:37 PM there's only one set of tweeters. and 6.5" are the most accurate fit although you can modify the door panel to make it fit a larger speaker(roto zip it). I have 6.5" MB Quart and components in my 03' JGC and I had the same in my 95 JGC. hope this helps!! D-VO 11-27-2005, 11:39 PM OK cool, so then if i wanted to replace all of them, what would i put in the rear doors? omally33 11-28-2005, 12:59 AM OK cool, so then if i wanted to replace all of them, what would i put in the rear doors? I have 6"x9" MB Quarts in my jeep now and did in my last one. clean and loud. probably the best fit! taxman9 11-28-2005, 02:05 PM D-Vo, I have a 96 as well, in 99 they upgraded rear speakers to 6X9, the 96 still has the 6.5s. I have infinity kappa's in the rear only, and still the gold component in the front. What you should do is get two sets of Infinity Kappa's one set would be the set with the tweeter seperate from the woofer (this would replace front speakers), this is the component set (infinity has many levels, kappa, reference, perfect, etc) but you will need component for the front. As for the back you will need non-component set where the tweeter and woofer are on one piece. Another thing you should look at doing is adding a 4 ohm amplifier, the amplifier in the JGC (located under drivers side rear seat) is 2 ohm I believe. Your headunit if newer is most likely 4 ohm and the speakers would sound better with that built in amp. You choices would be to 1)replace with a better amp or 2) by pass the amp so the signal is coming directly from the head unit (there are wiring schematices in the board here that tells you the color to color coordination) hope that helps. mx52nv 11-30-2005, 03:02 AM yes, the stock amp is 2 ohms vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
