Starts in the morning to go to work (after a jump). 8 hours later the truck cranks but won't start. With a jump it fires right up. Changed the altanator and tried to unplug everything that would cause this drain. New battery. Still the same problem. Truck runs fine, let it rest for 8 hours and it won't start.

silly question but are you sure your dome lights are off? (even the one by the tailgate?) have you checked if the bulb in the engine compartment is turning off when you lower the hood? Have you made sure that your battery cables are tight a corrosion free at both the starter (positive) and the block (negative)? Do you have an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry system in your car? have you disconnected that?

Well, maybe I'm not the only one to have this problem. On my previous 96, I had a slow drain. Turned out to be the stupid light inside the sunvisor, where you flip up the mirror. It got so hot that it melted all the plastic around it. Not sure if you have the lighted mirror in your sunvisor, but you never know. Mine almost caught on fire.

Good ideas guys. I thought I unpluged everything but ya'll showed me some other things I missed. It could be any of the above.
Many thanks

PS..........Have to put the gas tank back in, replacing a fuel pump. What a pain..
