im just driving down the road and get through all the gears and i am cruising and the rpm gauge just drops to 0 and all the dash lights come on like when you first start your car or you stall out. so i pull over and start it up and i am sitting there and the same thing happens. i have no clue maybe an electrical problem? any help please is appreciated.

is this a super coupe? does the speedometer also drop to zero when this happens?if so id suspect a bad ground, or an ignition switch going bad. if only the tach drops id suspect the crank sensor. they are notorious for going bad on the supercoupes. make sure that the crank pulley is not wobbling erratically though, because if it is,it is a sure sign of the harmonic balancer about to fail, which can also cause your symptoms.Again all the info i have given you is for the super coupe, so if you can be specific about your model and year, you might get some more help.

This happened to me and it turned out to be the throttle position sensor.

I have a 1990 SC that is doing something very similar. I will post back when I figure it out.

hey SC guys got an 89 did the same thing turned out the harmonic balancer broke and pulled away from the crankshaft sensor causeing the stall. Bad news these things are impossible to find only solution is aftermarket balancers that cost about 450.

I think I have solved my problem(s). I tried changing out one at a time the DIS, the mass airflow sensor, and the electronic ignition. None of these made any difference. While making these changes and repeatedly starting the engine (noting no changes in my original problem) the battery became so low I could not start without a jump. I got her going and proceeded to AutoZone for a check. My alternator was producing 14 volts without hardly any amps. I called around and found none. I found one in Colorado Springs about 45 min up the road. They exchanged mine being it was a lifetime warranty. So far I am not out of pocket any money except the gas to get to Springs and back. With the new alternator in place no changes were noted except not having to jump start anymore. Last night I purchased a fuel filter and changed it this morning. My neighbor said when his Intrepid was acting the same way two of the injectors had to be replaced. I thought for sure I was in for a big BILL. After starting on my daily hour drive to work today, all problems cleared up.

The tach returned to normal, possibly due to the alternator. The engine smoothed out as well. I am guessing that the fuel filter was so dirty that it was actually letting dirt into my injectors and clogging them. I filled up with super and injector cleaner on the way. So far she is purring like a kitten :) I will see tonight on my way home if it stays the same.

Thanks for the reply,
