parking/emergency break light comes on when it's not engaged!

I have a '95 Bonneville SSEII...okay,yesterday when I was driving to work I noticed the "chiming" noise that alerts me when something is wrong. I checked the dash and it was my parking break light. I stopped at a red light and popped the emergency break and then released it...the chiming didn't stop. Then the chiming stopped a few minutes later for no reason then a few minutes later it started again. I suspected that I was low on break fluid, but it appears I have plenty. What else could it be? It suddenly comes on and then goes off and it's driving me mad!

Hi there! I used to have this problem with another car. What you might want to try is next time the light goes on and it starts chiming at you is "lift the parking brake with your toe". I think that maybe the parking brake keeper spring is a little weak. This allows the brake lever to touch the switch the tells the car that the parking brake is still engaged.

Definately try the above first. The Brake lamp will also come on if you are low on brake fluid. Check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir.

You could also have an air bubble stuck in the master cylinder creating low pressure, tripping the sensor.
