I can't get my 4wd to engage. It is a push button. It will only try if I am in revearse, and it takes quite a few trys to get it to work (if it even works). Sometimes both Hi and Lo light up, and it isn't in 4wd. In any other gear, it doesn't even try. Wondering if it is the actuator. And if so, where is it?

I checked them. Found a hole in line going into the vacuum actuator under the battery. Replaced it and it worked fine until I started my truck later that day. It is doing the same thing.

my neighbor fixed mine, and I watched him, but really cant explain it. I will ask him next time I see him

Sounds like the encoder motor is going. Try unhooking the battery and letting it sit for a few minutes, reconnect and see what happens.

Thanks Blazes. Good idea. I have been reading more on it. I checked the wires going to the encoder motor and they are ok. Unhooked the battery and I am going to let it sit for a while and try it later on.

Blazes, it worked. After unpluging the battery for a while it works. Don't know how long it will last. I suppose I will have to change it. Thanks a lot. I was getting frustrated. I appreciate the help.

Glad to have helped, but its probably short lived, and almost time to change the encoder motor.
