I am trying to replace my broken "can holder" (the front cup holder in front of the shift lever) and cannot figure out how to remove the unit. I see that it is attached with four screws from the sides, which means I have to remove the entire console, but can only find the lower screws to do this. Any tips?

My cup holder also just broke recently-it is the one consistant problem on the 740s. I am currently looking at options including replacing-expensive; fixing-haven't figured out how; and taking out the gearing and just gluing on the faceplate. I'm hoping to move forward on this soon. I'll let you know how it works out and if you have any further ideas let me know. Have a good one.

Iv'e been through it and questioned a helpful dealer a few times so I new the shortcuts. You can buy the assembly from Bav Auto (USA) for $99.95 (pn 51168163005)....$50 less than dealer cost. The Bellevue, WA dealer charges 1 hour or 3 hours based on which part is broken. To replace the entire assembly you need to gut the inside of the car....knee pads to console...to get at the 2 side screws. If the little plastic gear or spring assembly is the culprit you can carefully take out the 2 vertical phillips screws and replace just those parts and swap faceplate to new assembly. That's what the dealer will do if they can. That's what I did.
