electrical problems

I have a 1984 Chevy G20 van, 307 c.i., auto tranny. One night I noticed the headlights would flicker if I moved the tarnsignal/dimmer switch. The next night I started to go home from work I turned on the lights, and the headlights wouldn't come on. Tha rest of the outside lights worked fine. I fugured the dimmer switch was shot, and replaced it with a three pole toggle switch. I wired it up the same way the onl wiring harness had been. Now the headlights work, kind of. Three of the four lights come on, and I can't dim them. The rest of the outside lights now don't work at all. Tail light, licence light, side lights, nothing. My question is how do I get the outside lights to work now? I sometimes work after dark, and really can't afford a ticket. Thanks in advance.
