Problem with 93 Cadillac DevilleSnipesXxX 11-18-2005, 03:57 PM My bro had a 93 Cadillac Deville with I think a 4.9 in it and for some reason if he drives it more than say 30-40 miles it dies and won't start back unless you let it set. Sometimes you can let it set for 15mins sometimes 2 hours. All lights come on but it just won't crank. He said sometimes before it does it, you can be driving and it acts like it ain't getting any gas. That makes it sound like a fuel issue but doesn't explain why the car won't crank once it has died. Any ideas? BTW if you think it's a sensor causing the problem could you give me a idea on where it's at and what it's called? Thx all caddydaddy 11-22-2005, 10:16 AM Your best bet would be to check for any set computer codes. Check here for how to check them: http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd1.html SnipesXxX 11-24-2005, 02:57 PM do I have to buy the tester or is it built into the caddy? Or does it show up on the little AC/heat display? caddydaddy 11-25-2005, 11:04 AM No, it's built into the car. Just follow the instructions on that link. SnipesXxX 11-25-2005, 11:47 PM didn't know that. I'll give it a try once I see my bro again. Thx alot BTW does the error codes(if any) show up on the heat/AC display? HAWG 11-26-2005, 10:13 AM check the module in the distributor. when they are bad they will cause that problem. DFBonnett 11-26-2005, 03:12 PM All lights come on but it just won't crank. ..... won't crank once it has died. Do you mean it won't crank over or it won't fire up? If it won't crank over, you might want to check the condition of the battery cables and connections and examine the insulation for signs of swelling underneath. If it dies and won't fire up until it cools a bit, suspect the ignition module as Hawg noted. When it dies, does it seem the longer it's been running the longer the wait for restart? Again, suspect the module. SnipesXxX 11-26-2005, 06:19 PM He done changed the ignition module I think with no luck. When it dies it acts like the battery is dead and won't crank the engine yet all the lights and stuff still work. Just won't crank to get the chance to fire up. Check the battery cables, especially the positive. for internal corrosion. diddy0071 02-13-2008, 10:47 PM Does anyone know if the ODB I testing works on a 92? I have a 92 and I want to see if I can check for trouble codes using the method above. caddydaddy 02-14-2008, 06:43 AM Does anyone know if the ODB I testing works on a 92? The OBD 1 I think started in the late 80's. maxwedge 02-14-2008, 03:07 PM Correct, but engine codes and info can be accessed thru the a/c control head, check caddyinfo.com for the how to.
