Well, not much to explain as you can see by the title that my 1997 GSX crankwalked. I press the clutch turn the wheel and the clutch doesnt come back. I went on DSM tuners and also Kevins old posts to see how to measure the crank and it turns out its starting to play. Dealership confirmed but played stupid and said they cant explain what caused it and also that they cannot fix it. God damit, I am soo pissed. I didnt even upload pics of it on here since its been less than a month that I've owned the car. I was just starting to upgrade it. Good thing is I got full refund for it. I was gonna sue the guy who sold it to me since he gave me a piece of paper "proof" of the car that its not gonna crankwalk soon, but it did in less then 30 days. So now I dont have a car any more. However, I am addicted to AWD and boost so I am on the hunt again for a GSX :). I test drove some WRX but those suckers are slower and also heavier. I really dont like the WRX and how they look and besides I like the support I get from this site.
So now I am looking for a GSX once again but this time I will order a six bolt and drop it in there. My parents were talking about buyng a brand new car but I rather spend 15K on a GSX and make it hella fast then buy a stock piece of shit for 15K. I hope I will have a new car in about a month so the first thing I check will be the crankwalk. Also would it be possible to prevent crankwalk of a 7bolt by changing the crank ??
By the way, a week ago my friends neighbor has the new civic and a evo and said that his evo was crankwalking too ?!?! I never heard of a Evolution crankwalking, is that even possible ??
So wish me luck as once again I start looking for a GSX.

any motor can crankwalk...being that the EVO has a 4g63, it might very well have CW even though i've also never heared on an EVO getting CW. sorry about your luck man, that is really shitty. i don't believe there's any real possible way to prevent CW from happening. just take care of the car. use only full synthetic oils, don't beat on it 24/7, and do all regular maintenence. i hope you find another GSX :)

Its possible for any car to crankwalk, its just more common on are 2gs due to inferior thrust bearings put in them but mitsu never said they did. But like they say there is no real proof how it happens.

From all the theories I have read on the cause of crankshaft the one I think sounds most plausible is the location of the piston squirters and the piston squirters being stuck open. This causes the bearing to become under lubricated and leads to premature wear. I remember some shop was saying they were working on a way to use the 1G squirters on a 2g block but I can't remember where. I'll post it if I find it.

is 420a motor can crankwalk ??

non turbo engines are immune to crankwalk, unfortunatly turbo engine from 95-99 are not.

Would changing the crankshaft of a 7bolt prevent crankwalking ???

if you mean swapping the 7bolt crank for a 6bolt crank, i don't think that's possible....the whole motor swap, however, is possible. i'm not sure if there's an aftermarket crank that would be any better for these motors.

dont we mean any aftermarket thrust bearings?? sinse those seem to be the culprits? (sp?)

It's threads like this one that have made me decide to build a 6 bolt instead of a 7 bolt. It seems like more and more 7 bolts have been crankwalking lately. I'm guessing that it has to do with them all being about 10 years old or so. I donno though...

Tis' a shame to read about it though... Have you checked DSM Tuners classifieds for a GSX or TSi yet?

This was already said, but I guess you passed over it. ANY engine can experience crankwalk. I will say it again, ANY engine in any car has the possibility of crankwalk. The fact is, the 4g63 has a slightly higher possibility is all, therefor it gets more publicity.

OK I agree. However, I have never seen or read about a 420a engine crankwalking. I know its possible but it just happend or I never seen one. Now compare 420a vs 4g63. I mean any one on this site with 420a engine ever experienced crankwalk ? What about people with 4g63 = Me, I know Spyder had that peoblem, also Spyderman's car that he got of Jake had crankwalk. Also Kevin had olike 5 Engines that crankwalked on him. I think there are more poeple but I just cant think right now. I mean its redicilous how many people that are around here are getting it. Now think about all the Turbo eclipses out there, I wounder what percentage of them have this problem. I mean I dont want to buy a car and know that any moment the engine can go bye bye and I have to spend another 3K on a 6bolt, but then again I am addicted to Eclipses :). Also people say that crankwalk is over rated ??? I am really against that statement since a lot of people are having this problem. Also the dealership told me that they get a lot of cars with this problem and people just exchange them for 3G's since they dont want to pay around 6K to have their motor rebuild. So again I must ask, changing the crank with an aftermarket one would not prevent a 7bolt from crankwalking or would it ? Is the only cure against it a 6 bolt ?

Ok here you go, this guy solved crankwalk. I talked to him for like 2 hours at a car show this summer. His shop is not to far from me.

So this guy sells a full 6 bolt motor for $2850? Does he fully build it up, or is it like stock?

LIE???????? Why dont you pick a phone up and call his shop, the knowledge he knows will run circles around you. I bet you cannot stump him on the 6 bolt, 7 bolt or even the 420A. Just because his link is not working right now you assume lie :nono: . UNBELIEVABLE. Trust me there is a few people around here that have had there engines done by him and still running hardcore. He also will build any combination you want, depending on your HP needs or what you plan on doing.

You guys just need to chill out... Why the hell does everyone take such offense to other peoples comments? You said the link didn't work and you said it was a lie. He had every right to post his thoughts and that phone number. And, just because he said it was a lie doesn't mean he claimed the guy to not know anything. You all need to be a little calmer about shit on here...

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. It wasn't intended as an insult to you or that guy. There's no sarcasm button on the computer so I should probably be a little clearer.
