I got a 3.8 Liter, 92 PA, here is what is going on...
When Start the car it will warm up to normal temp. However, when I start driving the temp drops to the lowest gage setting. As long as I am on the highway, driving around in the city I have to turn the fan on with a switch that I wired inside the car to keep the temp from going too high. When I bought the car the coolant low light was on. Have had it checked several times and no one seems to now whats wrong! I think that problem and this are related some type of way. How bout some insight? :banghead:

it could be, more info would help! Have you replaced any of the following and or prof. had them checked - thermostat, water pump, hoses, radiator, etc., anything with the cooling. Had a pressure check done on it?

now - do your fans work without the switch? if don't know, when car is cool check coolant make sure its full, shut hood, start car and keep ac off and rev it alittle until your gauge goes past the half way mark but not to the orange, pop the hood and see if they are on, if not you need to check your coolant temp. switch - fan resistor - etc., if these are bad they normally store a code on your computer,

if your fan does work, go to the pawn shop and buy a gun just don't make her suffer to much, yeap its late entertainment for me lol, anyways, lets start with that first,

if your still having a coolant lose try to find where it is, if you don't find a leak we'll just discuss that later, there are so many reasons these cars overheat, on my 92 it was overheating because my transmission fluid was old, another time was because I bought an aftermarket alt., these cars love acdelco! When replacing any parts just remember to buy acdelco, I've learned a long, hard, and expensive lesson from not doing that myself! Hope this helps!:smokin:

The thermostat was replaced last year, nothing else has been replaced since.I havent had a pressure test done. I can tell you that even after the car has been running for an hour or more the upper radiater hose is still soft.

The fans does not work, thats why I hard wired a switch. The car was put on a dyno tester and the computer showed the primary fan was running when it really wasn't. Meanwhile the secondary fan would kick on for a couple seconds and go off. This was done while the temp. was well above 200 degrees. But never would kick on after that.

I havent seen any leaks, but I will check again. I have the transmission flushed every 30k miles and oil changed ever 3k miles. I have replaced the stock alternator (105 A), with a 165 A alternator for use with my CB system.

Finally, the PA has a passengerside climate system. When it is on, and and defrost, good heat comes out of the duct on the passenger side. But the driver side is cold. Someone told me it could he the heater core.
Hope that this is enough info to help. Will be taking PA to have pressure testing done this weekend. While let you know what they find. Thanks!
