Help, Chevy World,
I have a 99 Silverado with a slight problem, the lights in my dash that are suppost to show what gear Im in, have been going on and off (off more than on) for some time now, Im sure its a short somewhere, but I was just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem. Any advice as to where the short might be would be appreciated.
Thanks to all in advance!

I really don't have a clue, but the dash clusters are easy to change if it comes to that, and a standard cluster can be had for ~$100 or so. Check ebay or a junkyard.

might be a stupid question but you checked all the fuses right?

There's a gear position sensor mounted on the side of the transmission. Make sure it's plugged in good. You may need to clean the contacts. To do this, just unplug it and spray some contact cleaner in the plug and the socket, then plug it back in. If this doesn't work, the sensor may need replacing.

There is a fuse for the message center and the PRND321 lights, check that, if that is ok, itīs cold solder in your cluster, very easy to mess up trying to fix, this really should be a warranty item by one cause it really ticks me off so many trucks have this.

If it's not under warranty check these guys out for repair if you don't want to get a new cluster... http://www.mrwhizard.com/
