Battery drain, disc player the culprit?

Hi, I just bought a 1993 Chevy Suburban October 31st 05 from a private owner. Well, he told me the truck goes thru alot of alternators. Well, I just noticed the voltage gage goes back and forth from normal to almost nothing. Bought a new battery this Sunday, since the alternator is charging. Yesterday, new battery dead! Noticed on posts that maybe a drain is the cause. Previous owner installed an after market stereo/10 disc cd changer. The cd changer always has power, even when the truck is turned off. Could this be the problem? Help! Woman with kids does not need this to happen all the time!
Thanks!

That will cause a "slow drain" on the battery, but that wouldn't make your Voltage gauge dance. Easiest way to check if your CD changer is a major culprit is to disconnect it, (of course), once you get your new battery recharged. And drive it for a week or so...........

Update! Not the battery, or cd player or anything that requires power. But we did find that two wires were arcing together causing a short from the starter to battery! Fixed that, truck started. Ok, went to the auto parts store to have the starter checked, turned off truck, bad idea! Would not start for nothing! Now husband is in the parking lot replacing the starter. Just got a call from husband, starter in and low and behold the dang thing started up! Guess the starter was taking too much voltage! We'll see!!
Thanks!
