1986 3.8l v6 lx, spuratic idle/carbon ect.
virtual_starwind 11-15-2005, 01:18 AM So im driving a 1986 3.8l lx, there are a few problems that caused the destruction of my exhaust in total ( aka cat and muffler, and ironicly my muffler just exploded the other day, icky back pressure i gues..) Here are the problems i need help with diagnosing: Rpm's surge when gas is given, little to no accecleration responce from the engine. Fuel mixture is too rich, figured that out from the carbon covered air filter/interior of the throttle body and diaodes from the spark plugs. No cat, no muffler (causes a problem with backpressure im sure..., aka cat is cleared through and muffler has a 3 inch gash in the side of it ) Will replace the exhaust once i have any clue as to how to fix the rich fuel mixture problem, any help would be greatly appreciated. (previous to this problem : replaced ignition moduler, ignition coil, battery, starter, distributor cap and roater... water pump) car seems to heat up quickly from a simple trip across town, begins to backfire when it worms up, oil temp gauge is working backwords (eg starts at hot and gradually works down to about "r" on normal before it starts backfireing, at which time the engine bogs down and shuts off) virtual_starwind 11-16-2005, 08:18 AM I really need help with this guys, my gas milage is totally out the window right about now, luckaly gas is 2.03 a gallon at the moment... only suggestion i have is replacing the MAP sensor... if any suggestions or knowledgable person out there could help... its much appreciated... Mustangs stick togeather. -Virt vesmcd 11-17-2005, 10:46 AM I really need help with this guys, my gas milage is totally out the window right about now, luckaly gas is 2.03 a gallon at the moment... only suggestion i have is replacing the MAP sensor... if any suggestions or knowledgable person out there could help... its much appreciated... Best bet is to hook it up to a code reader and see what pops up. virtual_starwind 11-18-2005, 12:15 PM codereader only brought up the faulty ignition moduler AutomotiveHelper.com, Copyright ©2013
