1987 E150 302 EFI w/AOD shifting

At first, it seemed it was shifting late into 3rd, then second, and finally, it doesn't seem to shift out of 1st. The Ford guys tell me it's the TV cable. The cable is there. Can the TV cable be so damaged (stretched) that it seems not to be able to get out of 1st? Other transmission "experts" say, no. It would shift without the cable at all.

I hope this isn't a distractor but if I put it into 1st, there's a desceleration when I lift the throttle. In other gears, the engine seems to rev without it being translated into forward movement unless I really give it some gas. This is similar to what happened originally, the engine seemed to just rev. That was in third though.

It's also possible, this all origianlly started with it not shifting into overdrive. I'm not real sure of it. It just occurred to me in retrospect looking at the gas mileage.

Please help. Driving around in 1st is not as much fun as you might think. I really would like to travel during Thanksgiving.

Thanks,
Ted

Also, when I checked the fluid, it was clear. :banghead:
