Hi there..I am new here. I have a 92 Toyota 4Runner and have already put 1500 into this thing that I bought two months ago. Recently I got a tank of bad gas that's when this started to happen..my rpm's are going real high whenever I first start to push on the gas pedal then they go to a more normal setting, but then quickly go up to 2/3000 or more once I push on the gas again to get going again. ??? I put Octane booster in my tank of bad gas..got through that and put really good gas in with more octane booster...still no change..Is this my transmission or could it be something that is cheaper and won't kill my budget..like the thermostat? I know that my timing belt is ready for a change..but don't know if I should spend the money for that or for a new tranny. So mad..I just want to get this up to par to last me like four more years..Info on truck..it's at 150,170 miles, V6, 4wd, Automatic, just had steering wheel pump with pulley/belt replaced, brakes and had to get my wheel bearings tightened, oil change, and odds and ends..Please help..thanks

On this old of a truck there will ALWAYS be odds & ends that need fixing, nickel & dimeing you.

The RPM issue, does sound like a tranny problem or at least caused by.
All fluid levels OK? Does it sound like the trannys slipping? Only low gear all other gears? Watch your tach closely, once it shifts then apply acceleration should only increase proportionally with speed.
Good Luck

Hey thanks..Yeah the tranny isn't slipping. All fluids are good, just had tranny fluid filled. Happens when I first press gas pedal then it evens out once I am at the same speed for awhile. Don't know. Guess I'll find out.
Thanks...
