Belt Tensioner

I have a 1992 Park Avenue that I use to talk with. I'm a avid CB'er and I swapped my stock alternator (105Amps) for a 165 Amp one. Changed the belt to a larger size to fit the larger alternator. After about a week, the belt started slipping . Making the normal squeal. So i went to a even smaller belt. Now the squeal is gone. This is where my questio comes in.
Should the belt tensioner move all all when you rev the motor? :2cents:

A belt is a little like a rubber band in the respect that it can stretch, not much mind you, but it can stretch.

THe belt is driven by the crankshaft. What happens, is when revving, the crank pulls harder on the belt, causing it to stretch ever so slightly, but enough to move the tensioner a little.

So yes, its nothing to worry about.

[Edited because when I type is sometimes looks like gibberish]

Yes it will move sligthly as the load on the belt changes, normal.
