Any tips on replacing the axle boots on the front of my '99 4x4 Burb?
I am sure there must be replacements out there or any sites with tech info on this subject. Current boots are badly cracked and sling grease all over.

If they are cracked get them replaced. If you are going to replace them yourself get a haynes manuel. It will walk you through it.

Replace the whole axle with a new one insted of replacing the boots. It is easier that way.

Ya if you got the extra $350.00. A boot is only $35.99

That price is from the dealer, you can get them from Carquest Napa, etc cheaper. Most shops replace the whole axle instead of replacing the boot.I replaced them with new ones instead of replacing the boot(Waste of time replacing the boot) and a new axle was under 100.00 minus the core charge if out of vehicle from Carquest and still is under $100.00.

Thanks for the info guys, I was told the same thing about replacing the whole axle from Napa dealer but wanted some input from a non moneymaking source.

I replaced the left outer boot this weekend and found the most difficult part of the entire operation was the crimping of the boot clamps.I didn't have the proper crimper to crimp the clamp to the proper torque, but I improvised.

If your axel is good go for the good OEM boot.
Clean and repack the joint whill you are at it.
You can get them whole axels cheap but that is what they are is cheap.
Cheap made with cheap boots or reman stuff.
Ever wonder why they are so cheap.
Your truck but you get what you pay for.
