turn the key and nothing happens....grncivicdhr 11-11-2005, 09:48 PM So i go out tonight to start my car, turn the key and the engine turns over but doesn't start. i think i didn't leave the key turned long enough. either way i go to turn the key again and all i hear is the starter clicking. i leave the car alone for a bit and i go back to it and nothing. the interior light works tho for a but b/c after i try starting the car i hear this clicking sound like the 4 ways are on. i go out to see if the battery is charged and it is. what the hell is goin on with my car, i can't figure this one out. oh, and hello to anyone that remembers me. i haven't been here for a while. 240SXSlideStar 11-11-2005, 10:06 PM If there is absolutly nothing when you turn the key but your lights work, it means your starter is fried. Try pushing your car and then, while its still moving at a good pace, put it in first gear and let out the clutch, it might start. natecivic92 11-11-2005, 10:08 PM is there a chip in the key nissanfanatic 11-11-2005, 10:15 PM Try tapping the starter with a blunt object. Hit_N_Run-player 11-11-2005, 10:30 PM sounds like a bad starter, roll start the car and see if thats the problem.. grncivicdhr 11-12-2005, 12:01 AM the strange thing is that it's done this before last year twice and never needed a new starter. i'll still try givin it a tap tomorrow, but in the other cases the car starts right up after it sits a while. i'll be gettin an s14 this summer and be done with this nightmare. 240SXSlideStar 11-12-2005, 12:27 AM Just cause its an S14 doesn't mean there won't be anything to fix. A car always needs fixing, no matter what it is. nissanfanatic 11-12-2005, 01:54 AM prolly use the same starter as the S13.lol sell me yoru s13 for $200!! Hit_N_Run-player 11-12-2005, 01:56 AM just because you buy a different car doesnt mean problems will be fixed. i would rather have a cheap broken car and invest money into fixing it myself and know i was driving a reliable car rather than selling a broken car so i could get a different one...... R.W.240 11-12-2005, 03:16 AM Uhhh, if there is nothing at all then its not the starter. If it was the starter you would hear the solinoid clicking. Check your... -Clutch Safety Switch -Engine grounds f-250guy1 11-12-2005, 03:31 AM ? howlong has it been since you've changed the timing belt/ if you haven't it could have sliped and spun the engine and throw it out of time and messed up the engine!!! towe it to a shop if you don't know how to fix it !!! Hit_N_Run-player 11-12-2005, 03:36 AM it uses a chain, i dont think that would slip. If it is trying to start over, then its probably a fuel supply, or ignition problem... nissan_240sx 11-12-2005, 04:03 AM if you plan on changing your starter, you can open it up and just replace the starter brush. saves you $$ natecivic92 11-12-2005, 05:45 AM i am not to good with nissan but sometimes with cars there is a chip in the key say a cadi or a new ford this chip musted be accepted by the ignition if not the hazard lights come on and a sec system light comes on if it does you may need a new key cut or clean the chip off xcusememisswyn 11-12-2005, 11:22 AM i am not to good with nissan but sometimes with cars there is a chip in the key say a cadi or a new ford this chip musted be accepted by the ignition if not the hazard lights come on and a sec system light comes on if it does you may need a new key cut or clean the chip off theres no chip in our car keys, plus it wouldnt work occasionally and then stop occasionally if it was the chip, it would work all the time or never work at all grncivicdhr 11-12-2005, 12:57 PM i'm pretty intelligent enough to know that a new car isn't the cure, thanks though :grinno: . i just would like to have an s14 instead. either way, i got up this morning and i turned the key and the only thing i here is the solenoid clicking. i took the starter off and i'm runnin out to get a new one. i hope it works. natecivic92 11-12-2005, 02:05 PM if it works let us know if you get it started go to the parts store and have them run a electrical check on it just to be safe, advance or autozone will do it for free grncivicdhr 11-13-2005, 04:51 PM the car is back among the living. it seems it was the starter. easy enough to fix, came right out and went right in. natecivic92 11-13-2005, 05:50 PM that's cool: get the electical check though just to make sure you didnt mess up the battery or just use a volt meter ;is a good tool to have you could of checked all the major electrical compents before just to be safe.just keep it in mind vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
