93 jimmy ignition? starting to drive me crazytaylorman 11-11-2005, 04:03 PM All right fellas, I need you help again. My 93 has a mind of its own. Sometimes, when you turn the key to the start position, everything goes dead. No dash lights, no start no nothing. If I try it again it usually works fine. This morning though after I'd already run it for a while, it almost left me stranded with my two little ones. NOW, its time to get it fixed. NO ses lights or anything like that. Runs like a dream when it does start. My tumbler is a little loose but overwhelmingly. I'm thinking it's probably my Elec ignition. Let me know what you all think. Thanks. rlith 11-12-2005, 07:23 AM More than likely the ignition switch is starting to wear out... blazes9395 11-12-2005, 07:32 PM Like Rilth said, ignition switch. taylorman 11-14-2005, 05:41 PM All right fellas, I need you help again. Thanks Guys!!! taylorman 11-19-2005, 10:29 PM Well gentlemen, no luck after a new ignition switch. Any other ideas. I'm still having the same problem. Not sure what to do next! phxwhiterose 11-25-2005, 10:15 AM I had the same problem with mine, and it was the battery cable had built up corrison and wasn't connecting. taylorman 11-25-2005, 11:37 AM Well gentlemen, no luck after a new ignition switch. Any other ideas. I'm still having the same problem. Not sure what to do next! I changed my battery about a month ago. But, I'll check them again anyway. I've got nothing to lose. Oh yeah, the problem started before that, but I'm open to ANY suggestions or help. Thanks. taylorman 11-29-2005, 09:56 AM I did it to me again. I noticed this time that my pump wouldn't prime when I turned the key on. How do you check the fuel relay? what are the parameters that I'm looking for? Could it possibly be a bad connection on by starter? Battery connections look good! Thanks. blazes9395 11-29-2005, 01:17 PM If it wasn't your ignition switch, then yeah, you most likly have some type of short somewhere. You say your fuel pump isn't priming? Are you getting your dash lights, and everything else to come on, or are they still not coming on? If you still have no lights as soon as you turn your key, check cables again, they could look good on the outside, but be corroded on the inside. Also, yes you could have a short in the starter, that when you turn the key, you complete the loop for the short, causing your problems. taylorman 11-29-2005, 03:23 PM I'm trying to pull my starter out and clean everything up, but I can't get the damn thing out. What the hell was gm thinking when they designed that? Anyway I'll do what I can. Let you all know later. All right. Once I got my head out of my xxx and quit throwing tools, it was very easy to get my starter out. Now, I'm not sure how the starter was even working. part of the housing was rusted away, the wires were corroded beyond belief, and the gear looks damn near wore off! Hell, I can't even get the sylinoid off the stupid thing. Its got to much rust on it. I guess I'll just buy a new one. Don't have time to have it rebuilt. Have to carry my mail route tomorrow. I'll let you all know how it's running once I get the new starter and syliniod in. taylorman 12-01-2005, 11:00 AM So far so good. But, I kicked the wifes car out of the garage and put mine in since it's getting down below freezing at night here. I'll give it a few more days. blazes9395 12-01-2005, 07:34 PM Good to hear, sounds like you got it! taylorman 12-04-2005, 08:49 PM Problem solved. After futher inspection , the sylinoid had a fairly large crack in the top of it. Not sure how it got there but judging by the amount of rust in it I'd say it has been there for a while. Anyhow, things are good again. Thanks Fellas. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
