Stearing is 'Clucking'- now ABS/Traction Control is Lit

Hi,

My first post.

'97 Park Avenue. Just changed both front hub assemblies because of 'humming' in wheel (changed 2nd one because source of noise was mis-identified as wrong side.). Now the humming has stopped... repair worked.

Stearing problem described below was not present after the first hub was replaced.

Immediately, once I got it back from my friend who just finished the 2nd hub, The stearing is making a 'clunking' sound, or maybe its a dull 'cracking' sound.... Usually does it 2 or 3 times each time I have to stear- usually when turning sharp corners. It doesn't happen if the turn is gradual. This happens turning the wheels in either direction... even when the car is not moving.

Drove it for a day like this- then on day 2 while driving away from the curb I heard the grinding (the usual noise) of my traction control activating even though my wheels weren't slipping. The grinding stopped and then my ABS and TRAC OFF lights came on and are still on.

So- that's my best description. Did my friend screw something up when replacing the 2nd hub?... What's wrong and what's it going to cost?

Thanks!
Bill

hey bill,
i had something like that too. I turned off traction control, drove it about a mile, shut it off, and turned it back on, and it hasnt happened again. as for your clunking, i dunno.
Good luck,
Tim

Make sure you torque both axle nuts to the specified torque, no gun here and car on the ground. Post back the results.
