Sticking Gas Pedal

Hi,

I just bought a 96 Bonneville SE. This is my third B'ville. Yesterday, I noticed that the gas pedal sticks some times. When I decelerate, the pedal sticks in the idle position. It is not binding, like a friction bind, but is stuck, like it is locked. I had to press pretty hard to get it lose. Once it was lose, it was fine, until it stuck again a few times.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Do you know the fix?

Ron

Try cleaning the the throttle body first, then disconnect the linkage at the TB and see if the cable or the TB itself binds.

lubricate the throttle shaft, and the cable assembly, as they get gummed up and can stick pretty tight.

you may have to take your throttle body off and cleand it good
sometimes it sticks because of carbon build up.

Yes it is, but the way GM designed the UIM it's "tuned" for opptimum
torqe in the RPM range.

Plus it has the "3800 tuned port injetion" badge on the fenders :)

All fuel injection systems have a throttle body. The throttle body in a TBI system has the injector(s) inside it and operates similar to a carburetor, except fuel is delivered electronically instead of by vacuum into a common plenum and it is drawn into the cylinders. A multiport system's throttle body is air only, and contains the throttle blade that regulates airflow and some sensors. Fuel is delivered by individual injectors located in the intake runners for each cylinder.
