I was challenged today. Guy I work with wants to race my Blazer.

2000 Blazer 2wd 4.3 Vortec with K&N intake and aftermarket exhaust

vs

2000 S-10 2wd 2.2 with no mods

Now I know my Blazer is bigger, heavier than his S-10. BUT I had a 97 S-10 just like his and I know what it can do and my Blazer (I think) is faster.

mine is Auto his is 5sp. Am I wrong or will I blow him out of the water?

Bear in mind. His is stick and yours is auto. He'll probably get you out of the whole, But you should catch him up when his shifting to 2nd. I just hope your going to take him on a track and not on the road. Safety comes first for pre-arranged racing.

Also his truck weighs less than the blazer by a lot of poundage

blazee
11-03-2005, 06:25 PM
I just compared the specs. You outweigh him by 600lbs. (seems questionible). You have 70 more horsepower. 110 more ft/lbs of torque. Your 0-60 is suppose to be 9.3 (stock) and his 0-60 is suppose to be 12.3.

I had a 96p/u and now a 98 blazer so I've driven them both too. I think the you should take him without much trouble. He has a good chance of beating you off the line if he's pretty good with the clutch but you'll tear his doors off after that.

Well it is going down next weekend on a back road. The sheriff of that country will actually be there because he loves street racing! My bet is that the S10 will just spin off the line, so you'll even beat him out of the hole.

There's legal street racing close to my place as well.
3-4 times every summer.
$15.00 Canadian or so, with prizes at the end

I think if you cant your 4.3 must be a little sick and may need a little minor upgrades .But i think it shall provale and you will be the dominator

I pulled it from the same place that I get all my facts from....... my ass. :naughty:

I got it from autotrader.com. They have a section to compare cars. You just choose up to three cars that you want to compare and they give you a side by side view of all the specs. There was a lot more info than what I posted. I only posted the stuff that was semi-relivent. They show standard and option equipment, safety ratings, crash tests, etc.......

11-07-2005, 08:52 PM
Ok new question. Now a 97ish S10 (regular cab) wants to race. He has an automatic with the 4.3 engine. My engine only has 19,000 miles on it while his has 197,000 miles on it.

This is another co-worker who over heard me talking about killing the 4 cyl and said he could take me. Only mods on his truck are straight pipes (no cats) with after market exhaust.

Can I take this guy? I figure the truck has almost 200,000 miles so I should be able to take him considering how worn his is. Opinions?

Weather permitting, we are all getting together this weekend to try it all out either way.

BlazerLT

The 4.3 in the S10 will be a challenge due to it being lighter.

As for the 2.2, go and kill him.

blazee
11-08-2005, 06:52 AM
The 4.3 will be a close one. Do you know if he has the same gear ratio as you? If they are the same, it will be won or lost at the line. Your motor should have a little extra power because it has less miles than his (if they were both maintained properly), but it's not enough to compensate for the weight difference. Your only hope is that he spins off the line or that he hasn't done a tune-up in while.

OverBoardProject
11-08-2005, 08:56 AM
You can bet that if he's challanging a 4.3L His 4 banger is well tuned

blazee
11-08-2005, 09:02 AM
Even if the 4 banger has a few mods, his Blazer should spank it. He's gonna have his hands full trying to outrun the S10 with a 4.3, though.

OverBoardProject
11-08-2005, 09:07 AM
You right, he'd have to hope that the S10 broke loose. Even with the Blazer hopped up

Driver error is what wins or looses most races

blazee
11-08-2005, 09:14 AM
The guy with the 4 banger must either be naive or know something that we don't if he's challenging a 4.3...... maybe he's got a V8 in there. I left the 2.8 badges on my camaro, when I dropped in a 400 sb.

Well honestly, I am looking at getting a shift kit/corvette servo and a programmer. Someone at work has a programmer for their 2000 P/U 4.3 4wd. He says it will work on my truck but I do not think it it will. His is manual and mine is auto. I think the programmers work differently between the full size truck and my blazer.

Don't use the programmer firmer shifts along with the servo.

One or the other.

Since the programmer does more than just fixing the shift, I will go with it. I mean the servo is cheaper but the programmer does more. now I need to find the model number he has to see if it works with my truck or not.

Along with new Magnaflow cat I am having installed Friday, it should run/sound gooder!

Instead of starting a new thread I will just ask here. Are the Hypertech/Jet programmers worth $400? Or even the $200 the used ones are going for on ebay? Most people only notice a better shift, nothing else. Hypertech only advertises a 25HP gain the the Hypertech 3($400). Would it be better to get a transgo shift kit and a corvette servo for less than $25 or get the programmer?

Also, Transgo has this note on their website for the shift kit I want "NOTE: Computer strategy change may be required before kit installation on 98 and later vehicles." What does that mean??

the 4.3 will defenently be a challange. but du to his light weight if he trys to take you at the line it will be his downfall he probably has about the same touqre as you but you will be able to use more on takeoff without just spinning your tires. if he knows what he is doing then you have a real race on your hands. :evillol:

Since the 4.3 Blazer is an auto and the manual S-10 is only a 2.2, I think it would be almost impossible to over spin the tires off the line with either combo. But it still will be fun racing.

^^^That's true but unless you power brake (brake torque) the auto in place, or pop the clutch at like 5000 rpm's on the manual, these two vehicles are only going to spin a little and go. They're just not all that powerful.

11-10-2005, 07:56 PM

Too bad. I imagine that it was just a fun race.

If you live any where neer a 1/4 or 1/8 mile track you'll have to ask him to race you there.
Telling him how the handicaps work.
Then everything is fair
