If it were my truck and I'd only put in a half quart or so, I'd probably drive it around for a few miles and see if there were any noticeable difference in shift performance. If there were none, I'd just wait until the next scheduled oil change and then do the normal drain and refill. Engine oil and transmission oil are pretty different as far as viscosity and friction properties, but I don't think a little 5w30 mixed with a lot of Dexron III is going to change trans performance much, if any. If the peace of mind is worth more than a few quarts of Dexron III though, you could always just drain out what you've poured in and start over.

That is what I'd do. I'd be afraid the detergents in the oil would contaminate the ATF. Plus the fact that the oil is multiviscosity, is heavier than ATF, the extra strain (no matter how small) could damage something.

How much is a little?

How much does 3 quarts of trans fluid cost?

Trans fluid I think is like hydraulic fluid, which doesnt like to be contaminated. Granted you are talking about some small amount.

I would suggest looking into what happens to engine oil when mixed with trans fluid. Also what happens to trans fluid when it is exposed to oil.

These are two pretty different substances.

Talk to some old mechanic guys. Im sure its happened before.

I wouldn't take the chance. Just drain it out and start all over again with fresh filter and ATF. Oil is to heavy for the hydraulic system of the trans. You'll definitely regret it later when the valve body of your trans clog’s and something burns out.
