What is this hose out of my firewallmy65289stang 11-02-2005, 06:55 PM Im pretty new to the jeep world, I tried this on another forum and couldn't get an answer. 96 cherokee 4.0 auto 4X4 sport. I have coolant leaking out of a hose that comes out of the firewall. It is not either of the heater hoses, those are hooked up. It comes out of the firewall below where the heater hoses come out of the firewall. Is this a hose for overflow if your heater core hand grenades? I can't smell coolant in the passenger compartment though, which would suggest a bad heater core. I was also told by a jeep tech that it was pretty rare that the heater core would be bad. Thanks Brian Dominic240 11-02-2005, 09:01 PM Its a overflow. Some cars It will drain in to the floor board of the car. In others it will drain outside, as yours does. This means that your heater core needs to be replaced. I just replaced the heater core on my mothers car about a month ago. Hers did the exact same thing. If it is mechanical it will eventually have some type of problem with it. "If it has titts or tires you will eventually have problems with them" my65289stang 11-03-2005, 10:21 AM How bad is replacing one of these? Someone wanted $400 to replace it, not a chance. Does the A/C system HAVE TO be discharged? It looks like most of the dash and console have to come out. myjeepsux420 11-03-2005, 10:53 AM You might be able to get to it with the glove box assembly out. $400 is about the going rate for a heater core. sector95 11-03-2005, 12:57 PM It's an ugly job..... as you noticed you've gotta dismantle most of the dash. I had to have my A/C evaporator replaced for a leak and the job ran right at 1K.... which included the evap and a drier.... biggest cost is labor. Four hundred bucks sounds about right..... make sure it's a good shop with a good rep cause they will be dealing with your interior panels, console and dash... all highly visible cosmetic stuff... you don't want some hacker in there tearing up the inside of your Jeep. mike 00XJ vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
