So i bought a 96 sebring lxi coupe off this guy for 2300..its a sharp looking car and i loved it when i saw it..I took it to work the next day..the car never drove out of the parking lot..ive had more trouble with this car..both strutt tower/mounts have gone, needed 4 new tires new alternator new battery..ive replaced about 6 fuses..i got a whole new exhaust and now my transmission is going..for the 2nd time..its progressivly getting worse..it jumps into gear after every stop...ive got it down to a science now it shifts back into gear at around 3000 rpm and i can usually ease it into gear but sometimes i wont realize its happened and it slams into gear and gets stuck in 1st then i have to put it in neutral turn off the car and restart it and it fixes itself but its VERY VERY fustrating(and kinda scary)..im a broke college student and i dont want to spend a grand on a new transmission ive been reading this forum and i hear it might be the output sensors please tell me its the sensors? any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm assuming you are not the only one with chrysler sebring transmission problems,I spent almost 2000 dollars repairing mine year and half ago, the differential pin came off from its place and broke the transmission case, when I took it to the mechanic he told me that was normal with that type of car, and Chrysler just built a different differential for it, he replaced the internal transmission parts with brand new parts from chrysler, including the updated differential, now after a year and half, something happen to it, one day driving around, the transmision would go to third gear, then it will loose the gear somehow, after three times, then after that it will stick on third gear and would not shift after that, so that car only goes to 60 MPH, I took it to another mechanic, and he told me that was the planetary, trasmission was going into safe mode so I wont burn the engine, the prize of it 750 dollars to fix it, not only that, I replaced the lower control arms, prize 250 dollars, the axle broke, 350 dollars, the rack and pinion, thats another 545 dollars, before that, tires (and they are not cheap at a regular tire store), like 130 dollars a piece, Thats why I go to www.tirerack.com, you can find then cheap there, but with tires, thats like another 2000 dollars, distributor cap, 45 dollars, spark plugs and wire, 80 dollars, now, last but not least, starter, and I will be spending like 180 dollars, but good thing they have a core value, but as you can see you are not the only one with Sebring problems, so don't feel bad, and theres some more tocome with mine too, this is my first and last experince with Chrysler, next car would be japanese, they seen to last longer

And I have a sebring LXI 98, not a 95 like it shows here at my profile.

Thats funny that you mention you would buy Japanese.
You already bought Japanese, are you enjoying it? The Sebring 2-Door coupe is built by Mitsubishi for Chrysler and features a genuine Japanese engine.

My kids haven't had much luck with Japanese. One bought a Nissan Altima - it required a $4500 tranny replacement just out of warranty. Another bought a Toyota Matrix. At 39K miles it blew its manual tranny, and, the dealer wanted $4000 to replace it. At least, Chrysler has a decent powertrain warranty out to 70K miles.
