92 PA - Ran out of gas, now won't start

Gas gauge showed just over 1/8 tank. Started missing and made it to gas station, died when I was adding the gas, hasn't started since (had to call a tow truck). Very likely fuel pump, but just hoping for any other possibility before dropping that tank (luckily I didn't fill it).

I have ran out of gas in other vehicles and have never had one not start back up after adding gas (nor do I know anyone else who has had this happen). I have always heard that vapor locking is a thing of the past so I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I never had even a hint previously that something might be wrong. No dummy lights came on when it started missing (i.e. "check engine", etc). Checked the fuse panel for blown fuses (owners manual doesn't say that there is a fuse specifically related to the fuel pump anyway); are there any in-line fuses or breakers?

Grasping at straws here, but I really don't want to drop that tank unless there is no other choice; nor do I want to get bent over by paying someone else up the ying yang for labor to install it. Doesn't take all that long, just a pain to do (especially since I don't have a garage and winter is setting in here in ND).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Did you checked the fuel filter?

listen for the fuel pump to hum inside the tank while you have someone turn the key to run, not start. if you dont hear it or feel it(touching the tank) i would say its the pump.
