Help Asap

Hey everyone

i did a tune up today on my 94 4.3 Vortec. I got 5 out of six plugs out and replaced. the 6th one broke in half. The threaded end is still in the motor. Does anyone know how to get the threaded end out? Are there any tools I can use to get it out?I need help ASAP. This is my daily driver.

Hate to say it but I was told you can not get it out unless you are a pro. I might be wrong though.

Found this link. It mentions an "Easy out" tool. No idea what that is though.

the only way i know to get that out of there is to pull that head and drill it out and retap your spark plug hole. you have to take the head off because if u drill it out with the head still on the block, all the metal will go into the cylinder and mess some stuff up. unless there is a good bit of spark plug sticking out of the hole, then you can just get you some vice grips and clamp on real good and try to unscrew it out of there.

I'll bet you could get it by drilling only half into the plug. don't drill through or the shavings will get in the cylinder ... only enough to get an easy out in there. The easy out only needs a small depth hole to grasp and do its job.

I hope you put never seize compound on the threads of the new plugs before you installed them, or you may go through this again on the next change out?

Did the hex part of the plug break off too, or just the ceramic upper portion? I've seen the ceramic part break off before, but that's all.

If the threaded part broke off in the head without the hex , You have a world of S***. The easy out mentioned will work BUT you will have debri in the cylinder either way since the center of plug is ceramic to the tip . If the threads were that tight you probably already have a crossthreaded plug. I would bite the bullet and take it a good auto repair shop if you can

The hex broke off the threaded part. I was trying to remove the plug, I was not the one that installed the plugs. I bought the truck last year and I am doing the plugs for the first time. I also noticed the heat shield that goes around the plugs is rusted bad and is flaking off in pieces.

rmbodie is right then. don't try using an easyout extractor yourself. i would agree that taking it to an auto shop would be your safest bet.

Let me guess center passenger side ? Take off the wheel and you can see it pretty good. If you have the whole ceramic part nothing got in the motor, use an easy out to get it out, heating around the plug with a propane torch or oxy/acet will help.

Yes passenger side middle plug. I have the ceramic part with the nut and the thing in the middle. I think I see something in there. I will try to take a picture of the part of the plug that I have

I had this same plug break on on my sons "96" Blazer. I used a vacuum cleaner and suck the remains while clearing the rest of the ceramic out of the stuck plug. Then I put liquid wrench around the plug and let it sit a hour or so. Using my EZ-Out from under the fender. I was able to extract the broken plug. I then used a 1/4 vacuum line about 3 feet in length, Typed it up to the vacuum, and shoved the other end into the cylinder and tried to pick up anything that mite of droped in from the plug. Well I didn't find anything. So I replaced the plug and it hasn't given me any trouble. This was about 7 months ago. Never seize compound was put on the threads when installing the new plugs.

Usually the plug thread is not that stuck in the head. The reason I guessed the passenger side middle is it can get splashed by water,salt and stuff from the wheel and road. If you look at the metal on the hex nut the part that broke has a wall thickness of about .020". the metal rusts away and then the torque to remove the plug breaks it. Never seize helps but the problem is the metal body of the plug just below the hex rusting. I replace my ac delcos about every 18 months and not enough time for them to rust but a cad plated or stainless body plug could be in there longer, if such an animal exists.
