Depends on what you mean by newbie. You need to releave the psi from the system. Find the filter (usally by the fuel tank). Figure out what tools you need to get the filter off. I believe Ford uses the same tools that remove the airconditoning hoses. The cupplings are held together by a spring that requres a tool to spread the spring open so the fittings can be pulled apart.

I hope this gives you some idea. You will also have to deal with gas running down your arm when you get the line apart. I just did this job on my 97 LeSabre.

On my last three Fords with the high pressure fuel pump (IE fuel injected) I did not require the tool that is used on the fuel rails or AC for the fuel pump. I did not need this tool on my 99 Windstar either.

I agree that you need to relieve the pressure. (easy task) and deal with the fuel spillage on your arm.

I recently bought an aftermarket fuel filter. The filter itself appeared to be OK ... but, luckily I noticed, the plastic clips were not what they should have been. They held the hoses connected to the filter ... but I could pull the hoses out of the connection by hand. This would not have been something I would want to be driving down the road with.

Now I wonder about the pressure rating of the fuel canister itself .....???

What I'm becoming more convinced that will increase fuel efficiency would be: Replace the O2 sensors at 60,000 intervolves, and having the injectors cleaned by ultrasonic and ballanced outside the engine. I'm going to try this with my 95 and see if I can get some more mpg out of it. I found a site that a business does this. What injector cleaner can't clean is the junk that builds up over time where the fuel doesn't touch. If the fuel doesn't touch it neither will the cleaner that's run with the fuel.

I have not had my fuel injectors cleaned. I'm in the planning stage. I'm thinking about getting a second set from the bone yard and sending them in to get cleaned and ballanced.
