Ive had this car for a couple months now, and recently the anti lock break light has stayed on, i dont think it did that when i first got it...

Is this normal or is something wrong?

Not normal. If the light is on your anti lock brakes is disabled.
Time to get it on a ABS capable scanner and get codes.
Post back code no.

I agree with MT2500, have the car scanned. There is a good chance it's a hub bearing gone bad, as they contain the wheel speed sensors.

Will this hurt anything if i keep driving it like this?

The vehicle will retain base braking. You just won't have Anti Lock.

Can a bad wheel bearing be checked by taking the wheel up off the ground and moving the tire by hand up and down to feel excess play?

Thanks....

Some times but not all of the time.
A bearing can get dry or rough and still stay tight.
When the start getting lose they are usually real bad.
Sometimes you can raise car up and spin wheel and feel or hear a bad bearing.
Also the ABS sensor can go bad and the bearing still be good. But a lot of but not all sensors are made in the wheel bearing assembly.
Another tell tale on a bad wheel bearing is the noise changing when you turn the wheel a little going down the road.
Also wheel bearing noise will change with car speed.
